L.A. MAYOR ERIC GARCETTI ENDORSES LUZ RIVAS FOR ASSEMBLY
In one of the most significant endorsements to date, L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti today endorsed Luz Rivas in California’s 39th Assembly District.
“Luz Rivas is the only candidate for Assembly with a proven record of creating opportunity for Valley families, said Garcetti. “Thanks to Luz, thousands of Valley students have developed a love of science and technology, which will allow them to go to college, pursue 21st century careers, and create better lives for themselves and their families.”
Rivas has dedicated her professional career to helping young girls pursue training and careers in science, engineering, and technology. As the founder of DIY Girls, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping girls become interested in math and science, she has helped set 2,500 young women on the path towards economic empowerment, independence, and self-confidence.
"Luz is smart, effective, and honest. In the Assembly, she’ll fight to create opportunity for every Valley family,” added Garcetti.

Rivas is running in the 39th Assembly District in in both the April 3 Special Election to fill out the remainder of the current term, and in the regularly scheduled 2018 election for the new term that begins in January.
"I'm thrilled to receive the Mayor’s support,” said Rivas. “The community is consolidating behind my campaign, and I look forward to working with him.”
Rivas has secured a large majority of the most significant endorsements in race, including the California Democratic Party, Planned Parenthood of Los Angeles, Latinas Lead, Congressman Tony Cardenas, Secretary of State Alex Padilla, LA County Supervisors Janice Hahn and Sheila Kuehl, and LA Councilwomen Nury Martinez and Monica Rodriguez.
The 39th District includes Arleta, Granada Hills, Lake View Terrace, Mission Hills, North Hollywood, Pacoima, Sun Valley, Sunland-Tujunga, Sylmar, and San Fernando.
