Rivas, who holds a Master of Education degree from Harvard and received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from MIT, is the founder of the DIY Girls, a nonprofit that encourage girls to become interested in science and engineering. In 2016, she was appointed to the Los Angeles Board of Public Works by Mayor Eric Garcetti.
