HER STORY
Luz was raised by an immigrant mother who worked as a hospital janitor. In the fifth grade, she was encouraged by her public school teacher to learn about computers, and her high school math teacher encouraged her to apply to MIT. Luz went on to earn a degree in Electrical Engineering from MIT.
Committed to creating opportunity for kids, Luz earned a Master of Education from Harvard University. To address the gender inequality she witnessed in the engineering field, Luz founded DIY (Do-It- Yourself) Girls, a local nonprofit organization that mentors young women to pursue careers in science and technology. DIY Girls has helped over 2,500 girls develop the skills to become engineers and designers.
Luz’s story and record of accomplishment allows her to connect with voters in a more substantial and emotional way than any other candidate in the race.
