Luz Builds Momentum in AD39 Race

With less than six weeks to go before the April 3 Special Election, Luz Rivas’ campaign for
Assembly is building strong momentum on multiple fronts.

Luz Rivas is the only candidate officially endorsed by the California Democratic Party.

FUNDRAISING SUPPORT

On Thursday, Rivas will file her first fundraising report, showing that she raised $136,885 from January 1 through February 17, averaging over $21,000 per week during that time period. Based on that pace, Rivas is well on her way to raising her goal of $300,000. The campaign will report over $132,000 cash on hand.

ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT:

Rivas has been earning endorsements from many of the most respected organizations in Southern California. Within the last week, she has been endorsed by:

  • Planned Parenthood Advocacy Project Los Angeles County

  • Women's Political Committee

  • United Firefighters of Los Angeles City

  • Latinas Lead CA

HER STORY

Luz was raised by an immigrant mother who worked as a hospital janitor. In the fifth grade, she was encouraged by her public school teacher to learn about computers, and her high school math teacher encouraged her to apply to MIT. Luz went on to earn a degree in Electrical Engineering from MIT.

Committed to creating opportunity for kids, Luz earned a Master of Education from Harvard University. To address the gender inequality she witnessed in the engineering field, Luz founded DIY (Do-It- Yourself) Girls, a local nonprofit organization that mentors young women to pursue careers in science and technology. DIY Girls has helped over 2,500 girls develop the skills to become engineers and designers.

Luz’s story and record of accomplishment allows her to connect with voters in a more substantial and emotional way than any other candidate in the race.
